got woken up last night by the sounds of sirens. they just kep coming and coming and coming which is strange since even though we live near a firehouse, they usually go right by and that’s it. but last night, after the 5th truck and cop car going by at 50 mph I knew something bad was up. Looked out the window and saw flames rising up a couple blocks away up the hill above Dolores park. I’ve only seen a house fire once before and it was much smaller, this looks like the multiple houses were on fire (but it turns out, just one I think after reading about it in the paper this morning)
I could hear the firefighters talking through bullhorns (I read that they rescued people off a balconey with a ladder truck. Scary stuff.

fog fog fog today in lovely downtown San Francisco, didn’t bring my jacket today, breaking SF Law #1. Always have layers. I’m biknig home so I should stay warm. New sneakers. My old pair of chucks had a hole in the sole which meant I had to walk around the puke and urine and water in the streets if I walked to BART in the morning from home. I leared a good way of walking on my right heal, but I’ve decided that is a coping behavious, not a real solution. Nobody has stepped on my new white shoes yet, thankfully.

oh boy. the nuts were out tonight.
left work later that usual tonight and though market street was pretty much free of cars, it was full of people with death wishes.
twice people just walked right out in front of me and bike, even after making eye contact. all in the course of three blocks.
luckily i had some place to go and knew there wasn’t anything to my left, otherwise bang!
7th street to 10th street are always a war zone.

Went to LinuxWorldExpo this morning. Took maybe an hour or so to walk around with my coworker. Interesting hardware. Boring software. At least on the face of it, which is too bad. The fog has rolled in after a week or so of hot hot hot sunny weather. Didn’t make it to the beach at all which is too bad. Did ride all around downtown on Saturday. Embarcadero down to the ramp. Had a beer in the shade while my legs baked. Too hot.
Picked up a linux sno-globe for Catherine. Shhhh. Don’t tell her!
