man, i am a sack of shit today. stayed up last night to watch the leonids from a city rooftop. the sky was clear, though the full moon did wash out a lot, esp. to the east where Leo was rising. i should have driven south a bit, but it worked out okay. popped out a couple times from 11:30pm till 1:30am, didn’t start to see anything till around 1:30. Leo didn’t rise till after midnight. Saturn and Jupiter were very clear and stood out against the sky. i should have gone and set up the telescope but didn’t want to miss anything. Its good that Jupiter is rising earlier now, right around midnight.
Around 2:30am you could tell it was the peak, there were about 3 leonids visible a minute, i hung out till around 3:30am where there was 1 every couple of minutes. Saw some really bright ones, some that left long smoke trails that lasted a couple minutes or two. it must have been a big show out in the desert in the darkdark. tried to take some photos but i don’t think anything came out. also set up a video cam, got to look through that tape.
