The Beauty of Keywords

Tuesday, February 8th, 2005

This past week has had lots of talk of Keyworks about the house. I think a lot of it has to do with lots of friends/family picking up the latest Apple iLife bundle with iPhoto. I’ve really been impressed with Flickr and how interesting of a service they provide. It’s the keywords that make it so. I would never been too excited about poking around a random photo site, but the keyword searches on Flickr bring up all sorts of entertaining things. City and name searches bring up cool and strange slideshows. I wish I was able to put multiple keywords together (you probably can, but I end up just editing the URL instead of going through the web interface most times)

iPhoto has a similar keyword system for your own photos. I see keywords having a similar problem as creating google searches. Coming up with just the proper system can be hard for some people. Esp with keywording thousands of photos, if you don’t get it quite right from the begining, you can end up with an unmanagable mess.

Lava from Kilauea hits the beach

Thursday, February 3rd, 2005

I read today that the lava from Kilauea has reached the ocean. When K and I were there in October, it was about a couple hour hike from the ocean. We were jealous of the people who we knew would get a chance a couple months later to watch it hit the water.

No chance of getting on a plane today to get there, maybe next year!
