Saturday…in the park…I thought it was the 25th of June…

Saturday, June 25th, 2005

Lots of things going on for Pride weekend in San Francisco. I’m being a homebody this weekend. Getting some good cat brushing time in as well as catching up on some things.
There’s a ton of people in the park rocking out for the dyke march. Lots of music all day. Not too bad for really cloudy / cold saturday.

The pink triangle appeared up on twin peaks this morning, I didn’t notice this year, but last year you could see the flashlights moving all night long as the people who put it up worked.

Whole lot of shaking going on…

Two short quakes in the last 5 minutes, nothing up on the USGS server yet. Real gentle, they almost feel like back spasms to me on the couch, K thinks the cat is moving on the bed.

Here goes another one I think……

I expect to see a big red block on the map in a bit, probably up near Crescent City.

Did you feel that???

I sure did.

I was sitting on the couch last night doing some work when the house started shaking. It shook for a pretty long time (and we are up pretty high). There was no sharp shock, just things starting to shake and then it passed.

Since it went on for such a long time I had time to get up, say, “do you feel this?” and get in the doorway waiting to see if all hell broke loose. The moment passed, I filed up the Nalgene bootles and empty wine bottle with water, just in case it was a foreshock. Put the shoes by the door and made sure the cat carrier was also near the door.

We used to have an earthquake kit in the car trunk until the junkies stole it. Last night was a reminder I need to put one together again.

Lots of big squares on the USGS earthquake map this week.

Stinky Flower

Last weekend, K and I spent our Memorial Day at the beach. Specifically Ocean Beach where the water temp was 55 degrees. I went in, causing perhaps some permanent brain damage while K stayed safely on the shore. The air was warm enough though to bring you back to life once you go out.

Afterward we stopped by the San Francisco’s Conservatory of Flowers in order to see “Ted”, their “titan arum”, or stinky flower. It did indeed stink, more like fried cheese than anything else, but maybe it gets worse.

A little speachless

Wow. I just read all the Apple-Intel annoucements and am a little speachless. I had expected them to license PPC to Intel in order to get some speed boosts, but a complete migration to x86? Just. Wow.

I run a bit of everything, Windows XP, Redhat Fedora, MacOS X and its time for me to upgrade my Apple iBook from my 2001 600Mhz model to something a bit more modern. I was thinking of getting a new 15″ Powerbook this week, I guess I will still go through with it, but will need to see how this is all going to play out. I’ll still get one, but wonder if there is going to be a price drop.
