According to the San Francisco Urban Forest Council
there is currently a 5 year backlog to repair sidewalks damaged by tree roots. There is also a multi-year backlog on tree planting or replacement, as seen in this photo.
The two green squares in this photo have been waiting for years for replacement trees. In the meantime, neighbors have taken to planting flowers.
